Blog week ending 16th June
PE GCSE students travelled to Cyclopark in Gravesend with a view to securing a grade in road cycling. From the off-set the weather was against them, the heavy rain made conditions extremely difficult, but the students all rose to the challenge! Students were taught six core skills before putting them into practice on the tracks. Following a break they were required to outwit and out-cycle their opponents in race conditions using all the new skills and techniques learnt in the earlier session. All students worked extremely hard, the course really tested their muscular endurance and their new-found skills. A great highlight of the day for Mrs Leamon was meeting Dame Kelly Holmes!
The standard of the auditions has been incredible suggesting we are in for a truly brilliant Wilmington’s Got Talent Concert on Tuesday 11th July at 7pm – 9.30pm. Please do come along and support the students. Refreshments (soft drinks) will be served by the PFA.
A gentle reminder that our A Level and GCSE Art Exhibition is today (Friday 16th June 4pm till 5.45pm). Parents and friends are invited to view the wonderful works displayed in the art rooms.
Year 10 Food Technology students became butchers this week and learned how to portion a chicken ahead of preparing a delicious dish of chicken breasts stuffed with cream cheese, chorizo and herbs (from Mrs Johnston’s garden) then wrapped in bacon and roasted … delicious.
Year 12 students staged a cupcake bake-sale to raise funds for a very deserving cause, The Alzheimer’s Society. And very popular they were too! Pictured from left; Hannah and Bhavisha of 12C, Emmanuella of 12D, Cerise of 12B and Emily of 12D
Holly of 9H competed in the Kent Schools Track & Field Championships at the weekend at the Julie Rose Stadium in Ashford. Holly came first in both of her events (100m and 200m), and also achieved a new personal best in the 200m! What an incredible performance Holly!
A huge congratulations to Ellie of 12A who has just signed to Arsenal Ladies! She will join their reserve team for the forthcoming season and will join the first team for a day of fitness and training at London Colney (Arsenal’s Training Ground). Ellie works exceptionally hard at both her football training and her academic studies and we are incredibly proud of her continued success.
Wilmington Grammar School for Boys PTA Summer Fair will be taking place on Saturday 24th June, 11am-2pm. All are welcome!
Congratulations to our Assistant Premises Manager Mr Miller, whose wonderful photo of a bee collecting pollen was selected by the BBC for their online gallery.
