Blog week ending 12th January

Year 11 Students received the results of their recent pre-public examinations (mocks) during a special event to help them further prepare them for their GCSE’s.  Students then completed ‘reflection sheets’ which provide an opportunity to highlight areas for development and any changes to revision strategy.  The results and learnings identified during this session will be used in the forthcoming ‘Maximise Study Skills’, revision and motivation workshop scheduled for Tuesday.

We are looking to increase the size of the Parents and Friends Association (PFA) and would like to invite all those who wish to contribute to the well-being of WGSG to become more involved in the PFA. You could choose to be either a regular member of the PFA (as part of the PFA committee), or help out occasionally, when we have fund-raising events.  As part of the school’s ethos of building a strong WGSG community, we would also like to extend the invitation to friends and relatives.

The PFA run several annual fund-raising events including discos, quizzes, a Prom and our Christmas Fair, the proceeds of which are used to support additional funding needs of the school. As a non-private school, the PFA therefore plays an important role in school by providing funding for such things as equipment and Bookbuzz for Y7, which otherwise the school would not be able to afford.

The PFA also contributes to the school in other ways, for example, by providing refreshments at school events and doing some gardening around the school to help with the upkeep of the school’s impressive grounds.

In a wider context, the PFA provides an opportunity for parents and friends of WGSG to network for the benefit of the school and our children. Involvement in the PFA really does make a difference. However, the PFA cannot exist without the support and help of the parents, friends and relatives and we do need more people to get involved.

The PFA holds meetings, usually on a Thursday evening, about once per half-term. Please check the school calendar for confirmation of future dates. These meetings are open to all (members and non-members) so please feel free to come along whenever you can.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday 1 February @ 7pm, in the School Library. If you would like any further details, please contact:

We hope to see you there!

Lower school assembly – New Year, New You!  I led an assembly to welcome the lower school back after the holiday and give students food for thought for some positive resolutions and good habits!

Ties for Thailand.  What a fabulous array of ties and bow ties, all worn in support of a WG6 trip to Thailand where students will be helping a charity project that supports a local school.  All monies raised go directly to the school in Thailand.  Thank you all for your enthusiastic support.

So many of the ties were homemade or wonderfully embellished!
