Blog week ending 13th May 2016
We had a very special visitor to the school this week, NAO the robot. WGSG is working closely with staff from the London Design and Engineering UTC in support of their preparations to open in September. Some of our students were entertained by an extraordinary visitor that they brought with them on Wednesday. NAO is a 58-cm tall humanoid robot. He is small, cute and highly intelligent. You can't help but love him! He is so intelligent that they plan to take him and a few of his like-minded ‘friends’ skiing next year to teach them how to master the sport. He entertains, moves, recognises you, hears you and even talks to you. Aldebaran created NAO to be a true daily companion. His humanoid form and extreme interactivity make him really endearing and loveable. We hope to have Nao back again at some point in the future! Please follow this link for more information on Nao.

Year 10 students took part in their own ‘Ready Steady Cook’ challenge. Each student contributed an item in a range of standard components and ingredients; their "surprise" item was a vegetarian alternative. They then had to design and prepare a meal in the lesson. Delicious!
Students from 8I held a very special assembly on the subject of religious tolerance. The theme focused on different faiths and explored ways in which religion shapes some cultures and traditions. The assembly prompted us to think about why it’s important to respect other people’s beliefs even when they are different to our own; and the advantages of living in a multi religious and multi-cultural society.
Damilola, Ini, Martina, Milana, Bailey, Danielle and Enya all contributed with information about their faith. Danielle also composed and recited a poem.
Year 7s are doing an Art project on ‘gardens’ which involves some photography.
Below, are some lovely photos by Jennifer of 7E which she took around the school grounds.
The music department hosted a ‘drum workshop’ during lunch break. Students were given the opportunity to be coached in a variety of techniques. Pictured Happiness of 7A and Laura of 9K.
Today is the last day of lessons for our year 11’s . Next week is a structured revision week with daily input across the subject areas, followed by study leave. There is a lot of fun and excitement around school today! Where does the time go?!
Danielle, Madison and Lara have all qualified to swim in the 2016 Swimfest in Neheim, Germany which in itself is a great accomplishment. This is a fantastic opportunity for them to compete against swimmers from all over the world. Danielle competed in Swimfest 2014 achieving the accolade of most successful swimmer in the tournament with three gold medals. This year’s competition will commence on the 14th of May. Pictured, Danielle of 10P, Madison of 9I and Lara of 9I. Good luck girls!
