Blog week ending 20th May 2016
Following an exciting competition for students to compose a new school song, Miss Anand arranged a very special visit to a music studio to record the winning entry, Unity. Victoria, Joyce, Marvel, Danielle, Pelumi and Emily (all of 9I) submitted the entry considered not only a very musically accomplished song but the one that summed up the ethos and spirit of WGSG.
Each girl performed her part individually then together they added harmonies and percussion. In the girls own words “we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Listening back to the recording we were amazed by how the song sounded and how it reflected our feelings towards the school and we are very proud of our accomplishments”. And so they should be, it’s wonderful! You can hear the girls perform Unity by following this link to our website gallery HERE where you’ll be able to play a slide show to accompany the song.
The results are in for the recent UK Junior Mathematical Challenge. Special congratulations go to Jenny of 7D and Lara of 8P who both achieved a Gold. A further nine year 7s and eighteen year 8’s achieved a silver. Well done girls.
Students have completed some beautiful cushions which showcase a variety of techniques including applique, quilting and tie-dye. Pictured, work completed by Ali of 11I (top) and Maizie of 10K and Maisie of 10H.
A highly productive and energetic final English revision session for year 11’s has taken place this week. Exams are now underway!
One of our alumni, Alice Brown, invited her WGSG teacher Mrs Sawyer to attend her final exhibition & showcase at her university, The Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. Alice is already building an extensive portfolio with high profile placements including costume assistant on Ellie Goulding’s tour and as wardrobe mistress on a production of Wuthering Heights. It was lovely to be involved as Alice launches her career.
We have now received a sample of the new school jumper with stripes around the v-neck.
This has been on show at reception for the students to see and we hope that you like the photograph.
These may be purchased through our new suppliers Price & Buckland online from the 14th July.
The new style jumper is compulsory for all new starters.
Students from 7A held a pick ‘n’ mix sale at lunchtime in aid of Unicef. Pictured, Egouhnor and Favor (left) and Katie, also of 7A with some of the sweets on sale.
Congratulations to Madison, Danielle and Lara who competed at Swimfest in Germany last weekend. Their club manager reported “What a weekend! Our best ever medal haul of 55 including 22 gold and 4 relay trophies! The swimmers were brilliant in and out of the pool. Every parent of those kids should be proud of the way they represented, not only EDSC, but England”
