Remote Learning

When school is closed or a Year group bubble has been instructed to Self-Isolate

Following School Closure, students have been following their normal timetable with lessons taking place ‘live’ on Microsoft TEAMS. The curriculum is being followed as planned. However, in some cases, Subject Leaders have adjusted the order of units or made slight alterations to the units themselves to facilitate learning from home (such as videos of practicals in Science or using pencils rather than paints in Art). However, the principle is that students will continue to learn the same skills and knowledge as if they were in school.

The majority of lessons will be taught ‘live’ with the teacher directing the lesson. However, they will use a range of strategies during the lesson time, including directing students to complete independent work and making themselves available to help via the chat function in TEAMS. Students are expected to contribute, as directed by the teacher, for the duration of the lesson.

In the event of staff absence (due to illness for example) work will be set on TEAMS for students to complete independently.

We have also taken the decision to reduce the amount of homework being set to students (especially lower years) as we are concerned about the amount of screen time students are expected to maintain for an extended period of time.

If concerns are identified, through students not contributing to lessons or not submitting work, teachers will raise this though the appropriate Head of Year or Head of Department and we will contact parents, as appropriate.

Students, will still be set assessed work, which they will receive feedback on – some feedback may be through the Quiz function and some will be personalised teacher feedback.

For students with SEN or who need additional support, the school will be contacting home weekly and will put in place additional support, as required.

If students do not have the equipment or internet access to be able to work remotely, parents should email Mrs Leamon

While all students are learning remotely, the timings of the school day have been altered to reflect this.

Self- Isolating Students

When school is open and students are required to self-isolate, teachers will make lesson resources available via TEAMS and will create a meeting for the lesson so that students can take part in the lesson and seek support, as required.
